Soul Force Conference Coming This Weekend

Inclusive Justice Michigan, a state-wide, faith-based coalition that advocates for equitable rights for all LGBTQ individuals, will host "A One Stop Pop Up Shop for Justice" conference April 13 at Eastern Michigan University.
The event will feature the Rev. Dr. Cindi Love, Executive Director of Soulforce, a national organization that uses non-violence to confront and end discrimination against the Lesbian-Gay-Bisexual-Transgender-Queer community. Dr. Love will discuss the changing face of activism in her keynote speech: "Pop Ups, Flash Mobs and Digital Activism in the Public Square."
The conference will also feature interactive seminars, focusing on social and digital actions and media strategies, led by Soulforce Director of Development Haven Herrin. Dr. Love serves on the Faith and Religion Council for the Human Rights Campaign in Washington, D.C., and the Compass to Compassion coalition, which works in support of LGBTQ rights throughout the world. The author of Would Jesus Discriminate? The 21st Century Question, she was part of Clergy Call on Washington, which lobbied for passage of the hate crimes bill and the employment non-discrimination act, and she is the former director for Metropolitan Community Church, where she is an ordained minister. Dr. Love also has a long history in the business world and was named one of the Top 50 Entrepreneurs in North America by Inc. Magazine in 1990. In 2008, she was honored as one of the "most loved women" in the United States by Go Magazine. A native of Abilene, Texas, Dr. Love has worked throughout Texas and in West Hollywood, Tel Aviv and Paris, France.
Soulforce is well-known for its Equality Rides, which travel to and seek dialogue with colleges and universities with policies that do not support LGBTQ rights.
The full day conference is $45 ($20 for students). To register visit http://www.inclusivejustice.org or call 517-416-4608.
