FERNDALE – Affirmations will host MI Health Answers, ACCESS and Get Covered America for a community presentation on the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) followed by a hands on enrollment for individuals in need of heath insurance, Jan. 14.
Health insurance protects from unexpected high medical costs and provides preventive care like vaccines, screenings and check-ups. The conversation, beginning at 7 p.m., will focus on LGBT specific concerns from families and individuals. MI Health Answers will provide an overview of the Individual Marketplace, Healthy MIchigan and financial benefits that are available to help decide on a care plan.
Small business owners will have a chance to consult with the presenters to answer any business-related issues as well.
Health care navigators from ACCESS will be available starting at 8 p.m. in the Affirmations computer lab for anyone interested in enrolling that evening. Interested parties should bring the Social Security numbers of anyone who is applying as well as any numbers for benefiting family members, income information of everyone in the household who is applying, the mailing addresses and any document information regarding immigration status. By attending this talk and signing up for health care, participants will avoid the fee for not being covered in 2015.
Since October of 2013, over 700,000 Michiganders have received medical health care coverage through the Marketplace, Medicaid and CHIP program. Of the 272,000 Michigan consumers who selected a plan through the Marketplace, 87 percent received financial assistance to help pay for the plan. The marketplace is a one-stop shop portal that helps to increase competition because consumers can now pick side-by-side comparisons that best fit their lifestyle and shop for the plan that best fits their budget.
