BY BTL STAFF

DETROIT – The Detroit LGBT Chamber will host a Black History Month Town Hall, presenting a documentary and engaging in a discussion about marriage equality in the mitten state.
To celebrate Black History Month, the Detroit Regional LGBT Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the Global Network of Black Pride and the Keith Center for Civil Rights at Wayne State University, will host a town hall Feb. 2 to consider the impacts of inclusive communities. The Chamber will also present Nefertiti Strong, the director of the documentary "For Faith, For Love, Forever," and host a discussion on the economics of the current marriage equality case that is being reviewed by the Supreme Court of the United States.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to rally to support the entrepreneurs who produced that film, which explores the debate on same-sex marriage in the African-American community and its inclusion of the black church.
A panel of local LGBT leaders will consist of Rev. Roland Stringfellow, pastor at MCC Detroit; Peter Hammer, Director of the Damon J. Keith Center; Jay Kaplan, attorney at the ACLU of Michigan LGBT Project; and Michelle Elizabeth Brown of the Human Rights Campaign. Attendees are encouraged to bring their questions and concerns for the panel.
The event is free and will be held from 6-8 p.m. in the Spencer M. Partrich Auditorium at Wayne State University Law School.
