Riverwalk Theatre Awarded Two MCACA Grants

Community Circle Players, Inc., doing business as Riverwalk Theatre, has been awarded two grants by the State of Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA), including a Capital Development grant for $5,215 and an Operational Support grant for $18,750. The Capital Development award will be used to purchase collapsible risers and replace the carpet leading from the back stage entrance to the theater lobby.
The Operational Support grant, which includes $2,020 provided to the Council by the National Endowment for the Arts, is intended to cover administrative costs, marketing, publicity and promotion during the period from Oct. 1-Sep. 30, 2016. The grants were awarded through the MCACA peer review process and selected from over 400 applications for 2016 funding.
Riverwalk Theatre was congratulated by State Rep. Andy Schor "for supporting and promoting community arts programs and activities that provide art demonstrations, discussions and engagement opportunities to help educate members of our community."
Organizations receiving MCACA grant awards are required to match those funds with other public and private dollars. Local support of the projects mentioned include Riverwalk Theatre Members, IBM Corporation, Mariel Foundation, LBWL, Joe D. Pentecost Foundation, Jackson National Community Fund, Consumer's Energy, and other local businesses. The MCACA peer review process allows for each grant application to be competitively considered by a panel of in-state and out-of-state arts and culture professionals. This ensures the taxpayers, who support this project through legislative appropriations, and all other visitors or residents in Michigan will have access to the highest quality arts and cultural experiences.
A complete list of grant awards around the state is available by contacting MCACA at 517-241-4011, or by visiting the MCACA website at http://www.michiganbusiness.org.
