Relieve Stress at Affirmations' Gentle Movement Event

FERNDALE – An upcoming class and presentation at Affirmations in Ferndale will showcase gentle somatic movement with somatic movement educator, Joel Haines.
Through movement and stretching catered to the capabilities of each individual, Haines will teach how to manage stress, reduce muscle tension, prevent injury, find greater ease and flow, discover inner body wisdom and more.
According to the International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association, somatic movement is the study of self from the perspective of one's lived experience, encompassing the dimensions of body, psyche and spirit and may include sound, breath, touch and imagery in addition to movement.
Haines will present 7 p.m. on Feb. 23 in the Affirmations Community room. Haines has studied body-mind centering, continuum, Qi-gong, movement in nature, dance improvisation and bodywork. Gentle Movement is part of Affirmations' Healthy Living Series.
