Upcoming Event Focuses on Gay Marriage, Still Existing Discriminatory Laws

"Did you know that it is still legal to fire employees for being LGBTQ in over half of U.S. states?" That's the tagline for the Holocaust Memorial Center's upcoming event, "Congrats on your gay marriage! You're fire!" The event begins at 7 p.m. on Feb. 23.
In this special learning event, the center will explore both the judicial process that led to the historic gay marriage ruling by the Supreme Court and discriminatory laws still impacting LGBTQ individuals. The center will investigate texts, contemporary and ancient, Jewish and secular, to launch conversations about the evolving approach to LGBTQ issues, and will also hear from a panel comprised of local young-adult Jewish LGBTQ individuals.
The event is presented in partnership with the Jewish Bar Association of Michigan, the Jewish Gay Network, the Holocaust Memorial Center, Hillel of Metro Detroit and the Cohen-Haddow Center for Jewish Studies at Wayne State University.
The Holocaust Memorial Center is located at 48123 Orchard Lake Road, Farmington Hills.
(This event is part of "The Well's CSI: Coffee. Study. Interpret." series, and is made possible in part by funds granted by The Covenant Foundation. The statements made and the views expressed, however, are solely the responsibility of The Well.)
