Cheers to HELP' Raises Funds for LGBTQ Health Care Services

BY BTL STAFF

More than 150 supporters attended the eighth annual Spring fundraiser, "Cheers to HELP," on May 12 at the Health Emergency Lifeline Programs' offices in Detroit. The wine tasting event helped raise over $15,000 for the HELP agency.
Attendees were able to see get a sneak peak at the beautifully renovated space that will soon house the Corktown Health Center. Opening this summer, the new facility will become the first non-profit medical home for the LGBTQ community to open in Michigan. All of the HIV-related services provided by HELP will continue to be available from the same location following the opening of the Corktown Health Center.
"The HELP organization has always been here for the HIV community and none of that will change," said Patrick Yankee, HELP-Corktown Health Center Chief Development Officer. "By expanding our services to include the broader area of LGBTQ health, we are laying the foundation for a center that can address long-standing the health disparities that exist in our community."
