A half hour can make a difference

Dear BTL,
On Friday Jan. 30, I had a visit with my state senator about the Cropsey Marriage Protection Amendment.
Though she is Republican, she is not a religious conservative. It sounded like she did not understand the true intent of the amendment, didn't think it had anything to do with gays, and thought was rather harmless. In my half hour with her, I did all I could to tell her what it was really about and how devestatingly damaging it was.
All of that means that going to visit your elected officials with your partner (and maybe even with your kids) and explaining how the lack of ability to marry hurts your family can make a big difference in our battle. There are some elected officials that truly hate us. There are also many that simply don't know what our lives are like and don't understand what the MPA is really about.
I visited my senator in her district office a mere 1.5 miles from my house. The appointment was only a half hour long, but a lot can be said in that amount of time.
Go see them and tell them. You can make a difference! And it is vital that we do.
