Affirmations annual Speak OUT

FERNDALE – Affirmations Lesbian & Gay Community Center will hold its annual Speak OUT event to commemorate National Coming Out Day on Monday, Oct. 11.
According to Michael Larson, Affirmations' director of programming, "With all the election issues at hand, I couldn't pass up another opportunity to get the word out."
"I think that we can make a good connection between coming out, speaking up, and getting involved in our community," he added.
Layton Dorey, former Coalition for a Fair Michigan co-chair, and Michelle Brown, another former CFM Board member, will be the keynote speakers at the event.
Larson stressed the importance of the event for our community in this election year, which features the virulently anti-gay Proposal 2 and a Presidential contest between the most pro- and anti-gay candidates ever.
"While the past Speak OUTs have been nice and heartwarming, this year we need to step it up just a bit, wake up those complacent ones, and challenge them to get involved! We really need to attract more of the younger set – 18-25 year olds," he said.
