Ann Arbor LGBTs join with Habitat for Humanity

ANN ARBOR – A diverse group of people from the Washtenaw County LGBT and allied community is organizing with a goal of building a Habitat for Humanity house in the county in the spring of 2006.
A core group of "maybe 25-30" organizers is meeting bi-monthly at Ann Arbor's /aut/ BAR and has issued an invitation to the larger LGBT community to become involved as organizers or volunteers in areas ranging from on-site to getting the word out about the project.
"The larger community doesn't see us as part of their community – they don't think of us as equal members. We are, of course, and this is a very visible way of saying that," said organizer Nicole Appleberry.
Rainbow House organizers meet every other Monday at 6 p.m. over dinner at the /aut/ BAR in Ann Arbor's Braun Court. The next meeting is Oct 17. For more information contact Nicole Appleberry at [email protected] or 734-276-4911, or Katie Galanes at [email protected].
