EAST LANSING – Michigan State University Young Americans for Freedom has announced on its blog that it will host a speech by Ryan Sorba from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sept.19. The title of the speech is "The Born Gay Hoax." No location on the MSU campus has been given.
MSU YAF made headlines last year when it became the first university-recognized and -sponsored hate group to be listed by the Southern Poverty Law Center's Intelligence Project.
Sorba, who is identified only as the author of the forthcoming book "The Born Gay Hoax," is, according to his online resume on LinkedIn.com, a field representative for Los Angeles for the conservative Leadership Institute in Virginia, where MSU YAF Chair Kyle Bristow spent the summer interning. A Google search did not turn up any publication information on the forthcoming book.
In addition, Sorba has made waves by hosting Fred Phelps-like protests at California State University in San Bernardino. Sorba launched a protest against a gender studies course there.
Sorba is a psychology student, and his lecture argues that the conception of being born gay is a new concept in the gay rights movement and a hoax. He argues that all people are born straight, and that through behavioral choices become gay.
