Deloitte to help Affirmations for annual Day of Impact

For a second year in a row, accounting firm Deloitte is giving back to metro Detroit's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community by designating Affirmations as one of their volunteer sites for their annual Day of Impact.
Held on June 11, the Day of Impact is the day when Deloitte employees are encouraged to donate eight hours of their paid time engaged in volunteer project teams to benefit local nonprofit organizations.
Deloitte, one of the Big Four public accounting firms in the United States, has 45,000 professionals focusing on serving clients in four primary business areas – audit, financial advisory, tax and consulting. Fortune and BusinessWeek consistently rank Deloitte among one of the best places to work.
Affirmations, Ferndale's LGBT community center, is one of less than a dozen organizations that will benefit from Deloitte's work this year as nearly two dozen employees descend on the community center.
The project team for Affirmations is headed up by Neil Marano and Michelle Niese, both Deloitte employees who have put in countless hours planning the volunteer projects to take place at Affirmations. Plans include installing signage inside the center to educate visitors about the building's LEED certification; painting a large youth-designed mural on the east wall of the game room; setting up a rooftop garden on the Skydeck; and adding an outdoor cafe at the building's entrance on Nine Mile Road.
Not only does Deloitte provide the volunteer labor for projects identified for each Day of Impact, they also provide direct financial support to purchase any associated equipment and supplies needs.

"We're really honored to be chosen a second time by the Deloitte team for their annual Day of Impact," said Affirmations Chief Administrative Officer Kathleen LaTosch. "They did an amazing job last year making improvements to the youth space and greening up the Skydeck, and we're excited to have them back a second year."
