Elliot Page Sheds 'Tears of Joy' During Emotional Oprah Interview

Jason A. Michael

In his first interview since coming out as trans last year, actor Elliot Page was no match for Oprah, who reportedly had him near tears after asking what part of his transition brought him the most joy.

"Getting out of the shower and the towel's around your waist, and you're looking at yourself in the mirror and you're just like, there I am," Page, 34, said before starting to choke up. "Not having the moment where I'm panicked. I'm not having all of these little moments that used to be … just being in a T-shirt. Being able to touch my chest and feel comfortable in my body for probably the first time. Tears of joy."

Page initially came out in tweet to his 1.5 million Twitter followers.

"I can't begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self," the tweet read. "I've been endlessly inspired by so many in the trans community. I love that I am trans. And I love that I am queer. To all the trans people who deal with harassment, self-loathing, abuse and [threats] of violence every day, I see you, I love you and I will do everything I can to change this world for the better."

As for teary interviews, they're nothing new for Page. In a March feature story for Time, writer Katy Steinmetz revealed that Page was crying even before she had asked the first question.

"Sorry, I'm going to be emotional," said Page. "But that's cool, right?"
