GM employee recognized for advancing workplace equality

DENVER – Leslie Hohman, engineering group manager from General Motors Corporation and chair of GM's LGBT Employee Affinity Group GM PLUS, was awarded the 2005 Trailblazer Award at the annual Out & Equal Workplace Summit in Denver on Sept. 24.
"As a global leader and the world's largest automaker, we at General Motors value diversity and the contributions and talents of all of our employees. GM is committed to building a company that is inclusive and respectful, and that provides equal opportunity to everyone," said Katy Barclay, vice president of global human resources at General Motors Corporation.
According to the GM PLUS leadership team who nominated Hohman for the award, she has been a catalyst in shifting the GM PLUS (GM People Like Us) group from a loosely organized, mostly male social and support group to a dynamic and leading agent for the advancement of LGBT workplace issues at General Motors.
Hohman said, "I am fortunate to have support from the past and present leadership committee of a terrific GM PLUS board and its many members. The entire board works tirelessly to educate and affect change at the world's largest automobile manufacturer. We have made some great strides at General Motors over the past five years, and this certainly would not have been possible without the support of a strong corporate diversity initiatives effort."
