In operation for over a century, Planned Parenthood has created a legacy of providing contraceptive care, sexual education and fought for the reproductive rights of its patients. Today, the nonprofit organization is hosting a virtual office opening on Aug. 25 at 6 p.m., but it will feature a pre-show party at 5:30 p.m. with Detroit artist Deidre D.S. SENSE Smith. Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer will also be in attendance.
"We know our country is at a crossroads, and who we elect in 2020 will determine our access to birth control, cancer screenings, sex education, abortion and so much more," write event organizers. "We need YOU to help us elect champions for reproductive rights up and down the ballot in Michigan. Join the fight and register to attend our virtual office opening!"
Volunteers and organizers will also talk about "what's at stake in this [presidential election]."
"And how you can work with us to reach out to voters and reclaim our power," write organizers. "And what better way to kick off our excitement to build in Michigan than with a special appearance from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer!"
