Grand Rapids Pride

Despite five or six inches of rainfall the night prior, West Michigan Pride went off without a hitch in Grand Rapids' John Ball Park on June 20.
The festival held that day was nothing but sunny, and was just part of a weekend of events, including a Pride Movie Night, Pride 5K and a Pride Picnic. Crowds piled into the slightly muddy park all day – and some even say the crowd was record breaking, beating out even Lansing's Diversity Festival the weekend before. Pridegoers came to see live bands and entertainment, check out booths and vendors and even participate in in a drag race that required men to dress up in drag and go through a set of obstacles. Other fun happenings included a dunk tank, beer tent, bingo tent and a mechanical bull.
Next year's West Michigan Pride will be held on June 19, 2010. For updates, visit http://www.westmipride.org.
