How about their souls?

Dear BTL,
Now that we've caught Gary Glenn and other supporters of Proposal 2 in their lies, I'm troubled by the spiritual implication.
The Righteous Right wants to post the Ten Commandments in courtrooms across the country, of which "Thou shalt not lie" is the ninth. They also want to enforce the bans against gays found in Leviticus (chapters 18 and 20, if they haven't already been pounded into you). Jesus taught that to break one law was equivalent to breaking all of them (to explain that a society based on legalities instead of compassion isn't healthy – but the Righteous Right is doing a good job of ignoring that bit of theology).
In their effort to push us back in the closet, why do they believe that lying doesn't endanger their immortal souls? Why is it acceptable to break one of the Top Ten in their efforts to enforce their view of a few minor commandments? One would think they would scrupulously study how we live so they could speak nothing but the truth and thus uphold one of the sacred Ten Commandments.
In the Dec. 9 BTL, letter writer Claudia Eddy commented, "I certainly hope those loving, tolerant 'Christian' people who voted to pass these anti-marriage equality amendments are very proud of themselves right now." You can bet they are. I've already responded to a letter in my denomination newspaper that congratulated fellow church members for doing the right thing. Sheesh. Stomp on us then gloat about it. Moral values all right.
