It’s Almost Mariah Carey Season as Singing Legend Announces Upcoming Christmas Show in Detroit
The Queen of Christmas will bring festive moments to the Fox Theatre on Dec. 1
Maybe you’ve seen the perennial meme: Mariah Carey in a sexy Santa suit circa 1994, when she released her now iconic Christmas album, trapped inside a giant ice cube. Well, that cube is melting quicker than you can name all of her 19 No. 1 singles. And soon, you can watch Carey bring holiday cheer and festive moments during her “Merry Christmas One and All!” tour.
For this 13-date trek, the gay icon and Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee (that’s right, dahhlings!) will deck the halls of arenas across the United States, including a stop in Detroit on Dec. 1 at Little Caesars Arena. The show marks Carey’s first arena appearance in Michigan since 2006, when she toured for her comeback album “The Emancipation of Mimi,” playing The Palace of Auburn Hills (RIP). She played the Fox Theatre in Detroit in 2018 on her “Caution World Tour.”
Like a white Christmas, I am already dreaming of the setlist, which will obviously include her modern classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” the miraculous Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 that only became a No. 1 in 2019, a full 25 years after its initial release. It broke several records, perhaps the most distinct one being the longest trip to No. 1.
But if I may speak on behalf of the lambs, the collective name of Mariah’s loyalist devotees, we are definitely hoping she’ll unwrap “Miss You Most (at Christmas Time),” another original song from that album that Carey wrote, but one she has rarely performed live in its entirety. Come for our sentimental tears, Mariah. We would love a little Christmas cleansing before 2024 hits.
