Husbands Greg Ruvolo and Tom Bayer won big on "Wheel of Fortune" this week — the Michigan couple, who live in Lathrup Village, took home a $6,000 cash prize and won a trip to Paris and Normandy, France. The prize package is worth $15,350 in total.

As Pride Source reported recently, Ruvolo and Bayer appeared on the classic game show on Tuesday, an experience that included highlights like spending some time with Vanna and Pat and uncovering fun facts about “Wizard of Oz.”

“We had so much fun,” Ruvolo says. “I am the president of Birmingham Village Players, so I secured the playhouse for a Wheel Watch Party, where 120 of our closest friends and family shared the excitement of watching the show on the 30-foot projection screen.”

Ruvolo and Bayer, only the second same-sex couple to ever appear on a “Wheel of Fortune” Sweethearts Week episode, worked well as a team on the episode (all those years of marriage paid off!), but it was a very tough bonus round that hindered their success. During that round, they didn't guess “Yearly Banquet” as the answer in an Event category puzzle. They were close, guessing “Yearly Bonnet” and “Yearly Benefit.”

Despite their bonus round miss, the couple thoroughly enjoyed their experience on the show and sharing it with their community. "It was great watching people watch the show and our viewing party at Birmingham Village Players,” Ruvolo says. “The room was filled with so much energy — you could feel the excitement!"

“The best part of being on 'Wheel of Fortune' was to be able to experience it as a couple and, eventually, share that experience with our friends and family,” adds Bayer.

The TV game-show contestants will jet off on their trip to France this fall.
