Motor City Pride coming to Ferndale June 5

By BTL Staff

FERNDALE – The annual Motor City Pride event will take over the streets of downtown Ferndale Sunday, June 5 from noon to 7 p.m.
The festival will include food and merchandise vendors as well as live entertainment including Martha Wash, best known as the voice behind 90s pop hits "Sweat" by C&C Music Factory and Blackbox's "Dreamland." Wash was also half of the duo dubbed The Weathergirls responsible for the club classic "It's Raining Men."
Other scheduled entertainers include Detroit's own Barb Payton, Lazy Sunday, Liz Larin, and Martika who is best known for the 80s hit "Toy Soldiers."
Hometown favorite Trixie Deluxxe will serve as emcee for the event.
Start your Pride celebrations at the movies with "Slutty Summer," showing Saturday, June 4 at the Main Art Theatre in Royal Oak.
"Slutty Summer" is dubbed "a somewhat romantic comedy." According to the Motor City Pride website, "Struggling writer Markus starts his summer heartbroken and single after having walked in on his lover having sex with another guy. He begins work in a Chelsea restaurant where it seems love and/or sex is on the minds of all the staff. Fellow waiter Luke teaches him that the best way to get over someone is to sleep around and before too long, Markus has hooked up with one of the other waiters, gorgeous model Tyler. They agree to keep casual, but emotions are a hard thing to control."
