One Kalamazoo to hold equality march

One Kalamazoo, the campaign that is heading up the support for the local anti-discrimination ordinance in the city, is planning to hold an equality march at 12-2 p.m. Oct. 25.
The march will begin at the Western Michigan University Peace Center and end at The Strutt on 773 W. Michigan Ave. Interested persons should meet at the flag poles outside the center just before noon.
On Nov. 3, Kalamazoo citizens will vote on the ordinance, which was previously passed unanimously by the City Commission, but was sent to the ballot after a group opposing it gathered petition signatures to do so. If passed by voters, the measure would protect people from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in the areas of housing, public services and employment.
Present at the rally will be Kalamazoo Gay and Lesbian Resource Center Executive Director David Garcia, City Commissioners Dave Anderson and Stephanie Moore, Commission candidates Terry Kuseske and Michael Kilbourne and many organizers from One Kalamazoo.
Students from local colleges are especially encouraged to come, and to sign up to speak.
To learn more, or to reserve a spot at the podium, contact One Kalamazoo Campus Director EJ Dean at [email protected], or call the One Kalamazoo offices at 269-903-2277.
