Media Matters for America – correcting right-wing lies for all of us
Founded in May 2004, Media Matters for America "is a Web-based, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) progressive research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media," according to the organization's web site.
On May 11, the organization's home page offered corrections of fact to articles in the Wall Street Journal and Washington Times, as well as corrections to statements made by right-wing spokespersons, and links to topics including "Bush Admin Propaganda Blitz."
Media Matters' staff and advisers come from the fields of academia, journalism, activism, business, and politics.
In addition to posting its findings on the web site, "Media Matters works daily to notify activists, journalists, pundits, and the general public about instances of misinformation, providing them with the resources to rebut false claims and to take direct action against offending media institutions."
