Tis the season to be Crumpet

If you're allergic to shopping malls, excessive commercialism or even camels, Who Wants Cake? has the perfect solution to restore a smile to your overburdened holidays.
"The SantaLand Diaries" and "Season's Greetings" from award-winning humorist David Sedaris and adapted for the stage by acclaimed director Joe Mantello will open Dec. 13 for a limited engagement.
A young man arrives in New York with dreams of being a writer for "One Life to Live" and instead lands a part-time job as a Macy's Christmas elf named Crumpet. From humiliating interview to elf indoctrination to scrapes with miscast Santas and obnoxious customers, the author's real-life experiences, detailed in "The SantaLand Diaries," are merrily subversive and fall-on-your-knees funny.
In "Season's Greetings," a determinedly sunny Mrs. Jocelyn Dunbar takes pen to paper recounting the joys and unexpected surprises of the past year — including the arrival of her husband's illegitimate, gold-digging, Vietnamese daughter on the doorstep.
Twisted, tragic and hilarious in its lurid revelations, "Season's Greetings" is an antidote to the chipper holiday newsletter of yore. Out writer David Sedaris is the author of the bestsellers "Barrel Fever," "Me Talk Pretty One Day," "Naked" and "Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim." He taught writing at the Art Institute of Chicago for two years, and his essays appear regularly in The New Yorker and Esquire. Sedaris' original radio pieces can often be heard on public radio's "This American Life," distributed nationally by WBEZ in Chicago.
"The SantaLand Diaries" features Joe Plambeck and "Season's Greetings" features Joe Bailey, both of Ferndale. Jamie Richards, of Birmingham, will direct. Performances will from from Dec. 13 to Dec. 22. Showtimes are Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Monday nights at 8 p.m. There will be a 3 p.m. matinee on Dec. 16. Ticket Prices are $20 for Friday-Saturday performances and Thursday, Sunday, and Monday performances are half off ($10 a ticket).
The Ringwald is located at 22742 Woodward Ave. in the Times Square of Ferndale. Reservations may be made by calling 248-556-8581 or online at http://www.WhoWantsCakeTheatre.com.
