Wellspring's Fall Concert of Dance premieres two new works

KALAMAZOO – Wellspring/Cori Terry & Dancers presents two new works featuring the entire company for the Fall Concert of Dance. The Fall Concert runs Nov. 11-13 and 17-19 in the Wellspring Theater at the Kalamazoo's Epic Center.
Artistic Director Cori Terry will premiere "Seeking Elsewhere" with music by Israeli-born cellist Maya Beiser. Beiser incorporates the frame drum, oud and voice in this mix of old and contemporary sounds, which Terry reflects in two contrasting sections of the intricate choreography.
Terry also will recreate "Erosion," a duet she choreographed in 1985 to the thrilling and strange vocalizations of Meredith Monk. The piece will feature dancers Alexis Harris and Michael Miller.
Artistic Associate Michael Miller will debut "Do Not Remove," a minimal piece set to the music of Tori Amos and featuring the entire company. Miller's choreography evokes a bustling city street and has the feeling of "being in personal isolation yet not being alone."
Wellspring will also perform "Java Jive," an audience favorite last performed in its entirety in 2000. Also choreographed by Miller, the dance features an energetic and humorous trio exploring the joys and woes of coffee addiction. The highly stylized and hilarious work is set to the jazz music of the Manhattan Transfer and Ella Fitzgerald.
Terry's newest work from last season's Spring Concert of Dance will make its return to the floor. "Story Without Words" is a visual feast as the dancers move from the starkness of the winter woods into the lush green of spring. The dance is performed to music by cellist David Darling and the world's leading oud player, Anouar Brahem.
All Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances begin at 8 p.m.; the Sunday matinee begins at 2 p.m.
Audiences are invited to join the company for a post-concert Choreographers' Talk each Friday and meet the artists at a reception following each evening performance.
General admission tickets are $20; students with ID pay $10. Tickets may be purchased at the Epic Center Box Office or Miller Auditorium Box Office, by calling 269-387-2300 or by ordering online at http://www.millerauditorium.com.
