CMU named best LGBT campus

Chris Azzopardi

The Advocate selected Central Michigan University as one of the "100 Best LGBT Campuses" and will be acknowledged in a special College Guide released on Aug. 1.
"I believe that CMU was selected because of its embrace of diversity and support for the tolerance and acceptance of GLBT students," said Benjamin Dotson, co-president of the Gay-Straight Alliance at CMU. "I am certainly proud to be a student at a university that values its GLBT students and continues to show its support of them."
Campus PrideNet is the product of nearly 5,000 online interviews with LGBT students, faculty and staff. It's the first time there's been such a comprehensive guide that profiles the 100 best colleges and universities for LGBT students.
"It is certainly an honor for CMU to be recognized by the Advocate College Guide," Dotson said. "CMU recognizes the value of diversity in its mission statement and embraces this concept in a variety of ways."
