I wanted to drop a note and say Kudos on this week's cover with Peter Mel ("You Can't Stop The Pete," BTL Dec. 25). I am so happy Mr. Mel is enjoying success in a new venue reminiscent of the old Backstage deli days. The cover and text brought back fond memories of my youth when I would stand in line in the wee hours of the morning for an after bar seat at his first place over on Seven Mile when I just a young lad. My walk down memory lane continued as I visited many fond recollections of friends and loved ones who worked at, or I visited with, at Backstage/Footlights over on Woodward near six. There are few memories I have, that warm my heart as much as the great times I had singing along with Jan on the keyboard at footlights or a great sloppy Backstage Burger after a night of dancing at Menjo's. Those days are long gone but the moments will last forever and I revisit them each time I go to Pete's Place.
What a perfect choice for a cover as we close out this year and reflect back.
Thank you for reminding me of some really great things we have here to enjoy again and again.
