Delaware To Become 11th State To Allow Same-Sex Marriage

DOVER, Del. (CNN) — The Delaware State Senate passed a same-sex marriage bill on Tuesday, paving the way for Delaware to become the eleventh state to legalize same-sex marriage, pending the governor’s signature.
The Senate vote passed 12-9, just a few weeks after the House passed the measure in a 23-18 vote.
Democratic Gov. Jack Markell has vowed to sign the bill if it passed. While the state had an existing civil unions law, the new measure allows gay and lesbian couples to legally marry.
Rhode Island, Iowa, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Washington and the District of Columbia allow same-sex marriage.
