LOS ANGELES – Orange is the New Black star Uzo Aduba won an Emmy for her portrayal of Suzanne "Crazy Eyes" Warren. She beat out five other women including co-stars Laverne Cox and Natasha Lyonne.

"I don't know how to say how incredibly impressed I am to be a part of this show day in, day out," Aduba said from the podium after Morgan Freeman handed her the award.

In her acceptance speech Aduba discussed her admiration for the show's creator Jenji Kohan stating that it is Kohan's burning need to tell the truth, no matter what the cost.

"Her heart is just mama bear for everybody on that team, not only for the art that she makes, but she wants to create a family there for us," Aduba said. "She really does everything in her power to make sure that energy-the love and the lfie that's present-stay bright, and that makes it the perfect work environment."

Aduba hadn't thought about where an Emmy would go in her home but she's excited to have to think about that now.

She also acknowledged the show's diversity, paying tribute to Netflix for "putting something like this on television so that everyone can be represented in such a beautiful way."
