AP – A protester who disrupted historic arguments over gay marriage at the U.S. Supreme Court is scheduled to be sentenced.
Rives Miller Grogan of Mansfield, Texas, pleaded guilty in September to illegally demonstrating inside the court and is set to be sentenced Thursday. Grogan was arrested on April 28 after he disrupted oral arguments by yelling that the Bible says gay marriage supporters "could burn in hell."
The justices announced their decision in the case in June, ruling 5-4 that same-sex couples have a right to marry nationwide.
Prosecutors have asked for a 30-day jail sentence. Prosecutors want those days to be consecutive while Grogan is asking a judge to serve it intermittently, two days at a time, so he can continue to work. Prosecutors are also seeking a $1,000 fine.
