Affirmations helps you get healthy

FERNDALE – Affirmations Lesbian Gay Community Center is promoting the general good health of the LGBT community by celebrating National LGBT Health Awareness Week. There are lots of programs and activities available, mostly for free, to anyone interested in getting healthier.
Here's what's going on at the center:
Weight Watchers/Weight Crunchers: We are currently in our third, 12 week session of Weight Watchers here at the center. Feedback has been great and we continue to see a great amount on interest and participation. It is a fun, encouraging and LGBT friendly group – what more reason do you need?
Side Walkers: Now that the long cold winter is starting to thaw out, join us for a quick power walk around Ferndale every Saturday morning at 9am. A great way to get your weekend off to a healthy, productive and fun start. Four legged companions are welcome as well.
Basic Yoga: Six Week Basic Yoga workshops are the perfect way to learn more about this healthy, relaxing activity. Sign up now for the next session.
Single Again: For those dealing with the break up or loss of a relationship, peer support can be an important tool. Join us the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month for the opportunity to talk to others in a supportive environment.
Kick Butts: Looking to quit smoking? Using a basic smoking cessation model along with facilitator lead discussion and support, Kick Butts could be just the tool you need to help you break away from nicotine. New session starts Tuesday March 16th at 7p.m.
We also have a health resource room here at the center to provide you with health information on various topics. Topics specifically focused on during LGBT Health Awareness Week are Cancer,Domestic Violence, Smoking, Mental Health, HIV/STDs, Nutrition and Weight, Sexual Health, Access to Quality Health Care and Trans Health.
