Date Officially Set for Season 3 of Detroit's Own "Bargain Block" on HGTV
A beloved Detroit duo are returning to HGTV in mere weeks!
Keith Bynum, star of the network's "Bargain Block," announced today via Instagram that the popular show will be returning for Season 3 on Aug. 23. "Bargain Block," which films in Detroit, follows Bynum and personal and professional partner Evan Thomas as they flip often dilapidated homes and turn them into charming abodes, usually for first-time homebuyers. HGTV ordered 10 fresh new episodes for the third season.
"Bargain Block" attracted more than 18 million viewers during its sophomore season. Bynum and Thomas are self-taught home renovation experts: Bynum is the designer, and Thomas is the construction guru. Shea Hicks-Whitfield, a lifelong Detroiter and real estate expert, rounds out the team. Bynum and Thomas take on houses in the worst possible condition, abandoned and often burned, and literally transform them.
"'Bargain Block' fans tell me every day how much they enjoy this series," said Loren Ruch, HGTV's group senior vice president, programming and development. "Keith, Evan and Shea's passion for revitalizing homes in Detroit shines in every episode as they turn forgotten properties into uniquely beautiful homes that feature Evan's craftsmanship and Keith's remarkable custom art and design style. They're on a mission to improve more neighborhoods and we'll help them get there with this new 10-episode order."
Bynum and Thomas moved to Detroit sight unseen in 2017 and, according to them, quickly fell in love with the Motor City. Detroit plays a pivotal role in the show as it spotlights local landmarks and landscapes. Bynum told Pride Source last year that he wanted to "showcase all of the cool things about the city that people outside of Detroit maybe didn't know about, especially in relation to how we run our business."
The couple initially lived in the homes they were renovating until they could afford to move into one of their own. Since then, the two have become megastars in the HGTV world. In addition to their own show, they have appeared on "Rock the Block." Currently, they are starring in the network's "Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge."
Bynum and Thomas have also opened their own headquarters in Detroit. Called 9 Design & Homes, the location features a community space/classroom, a gallery and sales floor, offices and a workshop. You can also purchase Bynum's original art there, with prices starting at $595.
The couple has often been called brave for their choice in homes to tackle. But Bynum told Pride Source in a separate story that "every house has so much history. - The fact that these houses are very old just means that there's a lot of energy tied to those houses. Especially on an abandoned house, to bring some of that energy back to places that have been kind of forgotten - I really love that element of it."
