Everyone's a critic: Are you?

After three seasons of faithful service to readers of Between The Lines, Associate Theater Critic John Quinn has decided to leave the Curtain Calls family to pursue other interests. Quinn joined the team in Sept. 2003, and his witty insights have informed, educated and entertained Michigan theatergoers ever since. His work will be missed.
Quinn's departure won't lessen our commitment to the professional theater community, however, nor to the faithful readers of Curtain Calls.
Instead, it provides an opportunity for everyone who thinks they're a critic to put their resumes where their mouths are and apply to become Curtain Call's next associate theater critic!
That's right: If you have college training in theater, professional theater experience and can write thoughtful, intelligent and fun-to-read theater criticism, you just might be the person we're looking for. Plus, candidates must have evenings available (especially Friday and Saturday nights), be able to meet Sunday afternoon deadlines, have reliable transportation, be willing to travel within a 90-mile radius of downtown Detroit and have no current affiliation with one or more of our professional theaters. (And in case you're wondering: Yes, this is a paid, freelance position.)
So if you think these qualifications describe YOU, send your up-to-date resume, a sample of your writing and a cover letter explaining why we should choose you to [email protected] or by fax to 734-293-7201 by no later Oct. 15. (Faxes should be sent to the attention of D. Calamia.)
Only the top candidates will be contacted for further consideration.
In the meantime, next week will see the debut of Ann Arbor resident Robert Bethune in these pages. Bethune, who has been actively engaged in theatrical production, research, teaching and criticism for about 25 years, will review shows staged by Breathe Art Theatre Project and Williamston Theatre.
And me? I'll be busy, too, at the Blackbird Theatre and The UDM Theatre Company.
After that, I'll be pouring over resumes. Will Robert become the next associate theater critic? Or will YOU?
Stay tuned!
