Local theater company presents Pulitzer Prize winner

The Peppermint Creek Theatre Company will present its second show of their 2007-08 Season, "I Am My Own Wife" by Doug Wright. Based on a true story, and inspired by interviews conducted by the playwright over several years, "I Am My Own Wife" tells the fascinating tale of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a real-life German transvestite who managed to survive both the Nazi onslaught and the repressive East German Communist regime.
Winner of the 2004 Pulitzer Prize and the 2004 Tony Award, "I Am My Own Wife" is "a truly remarkable experience in the theater, a must-see…an experience that is intellectual, theatrical, funny, and poignant…the integrity of his writing provokes us to think, it teaches us a history we never knew we had, and without forgiveness and sentiment unravels the story of one life," according to www.nytheatre.com. Starring JD De La Ossa, playing over 40 characters in a tour-de-force performance, "I Am My Own Wife" runs Nov. 8-11 and 15-17.
All shows will be performed at Perspective2, located at 319 E. Grand River in Old Town Lansing. All shows begin at 8 p.m., except the first Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 ($10 for students/seniors).
