Martha Wainwright comes from a family that some would call "musical royalty." She is the daughter of Kate McGarrigle and Loudon Wainwright III, and sister of Rufus Wainwright, yet she writes and sings with a style completely her own. After several tours as opener and band-mate for Rufus, and appearances on albums by Rufus, the McGarrigles, and Linda Thompson, Martha released her EP "BMFA" (short for "Bloody Mother F—–g Asshole," a song dedicated to her father that also appears on her full length CD.) The EP garnered rave reviews: The London Times called it a "tour de force" while The New York Times named it "a gorgeous teaser" to her critically acclaimed full-length debut. Poetic and profane, Martha evokes great singer/songwriters like Rickie Lee Jones and Patty Smith with touches of modern day pop vocalists like Mazzy Star. Martha is going to be smack dab in the middle of Ferndale the night of Motor City Pride. Since you'll be in the neighborhood anyway, buy a ticket to see the amazing Martha at this intimate Magic Bag appearance so you can say, "I saw her when."
