Peace Education Center hosts annual 'Alternative Holiday Sale'

The Peace Education Center has expanded its annual "Alternative Holiday Sale" to two days this year. The sale will take place from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 16 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Unitarian Universalist Church in East Lansing, which is across the street from the East Lansing Public Library.
The "Alternative Holiday Sale" supports fair trade, causes of peace and justice, charitable organizations and local artisans. The day will feature imaginative gifts and treasures from talented local artists, fair trade programs from around the world, and eclectic items for the difficult to please. Shoppers will discover gift selections beyond the same old choices at the mall. Everyone is invited to the sale to experience positive energy and diversity of the sale, as well as the opportunity to gather as a community. Participating organizations and vendors include: Ten Thousand Villages, Esperanza en Accion, Soulful Herbs, and many others. Everyone attending will celebrate in the spirit of the season and contribute to a world where progress comes from understanding and mutual respect.
Specific items for sale include crafts, glass artwork, jewelry, herbal balms, fine arts, hand-knitted items, progressive books, homemade soaps, organic apple products from local orchards, peace-and-justice merchandise, imported coffees, chocolate, baskets, textile goods and gifts of all descriptions from all over the world. All items are sold in support of fair-trade practices. Delicious and nourishing foods and breads, snacks and dessert items will be available for sale throughout the event. The Peace Education Center Web site at http://www.peaceedcenter.org has a full list of vendors, as well as information about other exciting community events the same weekend.
