Project Light to host LGBT youth suicide prevention forum

Project Light will host the second annual forum to educate the public about LGBT youth suicide prevention and intervention on Saturday, Nov. 1. The forum will be held at the Wesley Foundation on the campus of Western Michigan University from 12-3 p.m.
Statistics show that one out of three lesbian, gay or bisexual youth and one out of every two transgender youth will contemplate, attempt or complete suicide. Project Light seeks to provide information, resources and education because of these alarming numbers. Their hopes are to intervene when an LGBT youth is suicidal and stop them from attempting.
The Education Forum will feature information from local youth-serving organizations. The keynote speakers will include Colette Beighley of the Triangle Foundation, Joshua Jacobs of Counseling Innovations and Rev. Dr. Julie Nemecek, transgender educator and activist. There will also be live entertainment from Adam Carter.
The Education Forum has been made possible by the support of the Wesley Foundation, Ready.Set.Mail, LLC and the Kalamazoo Gay Lesbian Resource Center. All funds raised at this event will benefit the intervention and education efforts of Project Light.
