Part of the Affirmations LGBTQ community center's Cross the Line Youth Empowerment Program, patrons of the center will be welcome to attend the opening shift of its Recess Cafe on Friday, Jan. 11, from 4 to 8 p.m.
"Stop by and grab a snack in support of the Affirmations' Youth Run Recess Cafe," wrote event organizers. "All money raised through proceeds will go directly to supporting the Center Youth Programming."
In fact, the re-opening of the cafe happens regularly throughout the year as new youth volunteers sign up to both aid the center and learn useful and resume-transferable life skills like business operations.
"(It's a) 16-week program designed to empower LGBTQ+ youth in the metro Detroit area with the soft and hard skills necessary for successful workforce navigation," event organizers said. "Utilizing theoretical and practical application, this program provides interactive training and on-the-job training. During the program period, XTL Youth Workforce Development Program will serve up to 15 metro Detroit youth ages 13 to 20. We work with our Business Advisory Counsel to guide and mentor the youth through the program."
