George Santos Rises Like a Felonious Phoenix From the Ashes of a Dysfunctional Political Party
Oh, hey, everybody. How are things going? Are they perfect and great? Why, yes. Yes they are.
First of all, everybody’s favorite pathologically lying gay George Santos is running for office again, because of course he is.
You may remember that Santos previously represented New York’s Third Congressional District on Long Island until the U.S. house voted to expel his ass. Why did they expel him? So, so many reasons.
“He had been caught in numerous lies about his education, work experience and more, and had been indicted for various crimes, such as fraud, conspiracy, and falsifying records (he has pleaded not guilty to all the charges),” The Advocate reports. “Also, a detailed investigation by the House Ethics Committee uncovered extensive evidence of alleged misconduct, including campaign finance violations and misrepresentation of his background. After the report came out, he said he wouldn't seek reelection.”
Wait, he said he wouldn’t run again and now… he’s running? What is he, some kind of liar? (Yes, yes he is.)
Santos was even at Biden’s State of the Union, sitting next to extremist Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz, who has legal problems of his own.
And just how did Santos get in there? According to ABC News, “As a former member, Santos retains the privilege of accessing the House floor. He would need to be convicted of one of his criminal charges to be banned from the floor.”
In case you were wondering just how delusional Santos is, on March 7 he posted to X that he is running again: “I have made several personal sacrifices in the name of serving the American people. My promise is that I will never back down because of my love for this country.”
Ah, yes. If Santos is known for anything it’s for his many personal sacrifices made in the name of loving America.
Santos also called out Republican incumbent Nick LaLota, writing, “He is a willing [sic] to risk the future of our majority and the future of this country for his own political gain. After a lot of prayer and conversation with my friends and family, I have made a very important decision that will shake things up.”
But Santos quickly decided that he’s not going to run as a Republican.
“The Republican Party continues to lie and swindle its voter base. I in good conscience cannot affiliate myself with a party that stands for nothing and falls for everything. I am officially suspending my petitioning in #NY0 to access the ballot as a Republican and will be filling [sic] to run as an independent,” Santos posted on X March 24. “I will take my Ultra MAGA/Trump supporting values to the ballot in November as an Independent.”
Santos then gives a shout-out to LaLota and potential Democratic challenger John Avlon saying, “I’ll see you boys in November!”
Now, Santos is absolutely right that the Republican Party “stands for nothing and falls for everything.” What he is not right about is that George Santos running as an Independent for Congress will in any way fix that. With luck he will pull votes away from Lakota and help Avlon or whoever wins the Democratic primary in June win in November.
Unsurprisingly, LaLota had some thoughts. “George Santos’ expulsion from Congress was good for the nation and his resignation from the Republican Party is good for commonsense conservatives,” LaLota said according to The Huffington Post. “Santos can watch me defend this important swing district and the November election results from his prison cell as he’s being held accountable for stealing an election and ripping off donors.”

The Huffington Post also spoke with Suffolk County GOP chair Jesse Garcia.
“This is nothing more than the continuation of George Santos’ need for celebrity status,” Garcia said. “There is no appetite amongst the voters of the First District, Long Island or even the nation for the Santos clown car show to continue.”
Needless to say, Santos isn’t very popular with Republicans. Or Democrats. It’ll be interesting to see who funds this little Independent campaign.
The Republican Party is a party of spectacle. They don’t have popular ideas. They don’t care about what happens to the average American. I admit that I can’t help but find some Republican infighting entertaining, but I also know that this fighting is just one of the many symptoms of a completely dysfunctional party. A party that has for decades been hell bent on proving to voters that government can’t possibly do anything for the average American except to hurt the people they don’t like. Sadly, that’s an incredibly effective campaign platform.
