Royal Starr Returns To Host Filmmaker Community Mixer

ROYAL OAK — LGBTQ and ally filmmakers can look forward to the upcoming Royal Starr Arts Institute's Community Mixer — scheduled to be held on Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. The Royal Starr Arts institute itself is a a non-profit arts organization that encourages filmmakers from across the Metro area to meet up, chat about upcoming projects and possibly even collaborate. President of the group Luke Castle said he's excited about the kick-off event for 2019.
"We really want to strengthen the filmmaking community here in Michigan, and we can do that by connecting filmmakers," Castle said. "I'm looking forward to the continue growth of the Royal Starr Arts Institute. The Monthly Filmmaker Mixers where great success last year. This year, we are adding RSAI Memberships as a way to support our ongoing mission to support our local artist while bringing them discounts and benefits with area businesses."
There is no charge for admission, and attendees are encouraged to bring their business cards and headshots. Additionally, local directors will be accepting headshots for upcoming films.
These mixers are intentionally leading up to the annual Royal Starr Film Festival, an international movie gala celebrated in downtown Royal Oak, in September of 2019. The festival attracts filmmakers from all over Michigan, the United States and the world. Royal Starr is now accepting entries for the 2019 festival. The event will be held at Hamlin Corner at 386 N. Main St. in Royal Oak. Tickets to the January Filmmaker Mixer are limited, they can be reserved for free at mixers.RoyalStarr.org.
