Jefferson Market Bakery located at 609 W. Jefferson in Ann Arbor lets you have your cake and eat it too! Owner Nic Sims and her top cake artist Moriah Elkins, are ready to serve up some delicious sweet treats for your big day. So, what's trending this season? Sims said it just depends on what you're looking at – especially on the internet. She said, "last year, about 75 percent of our cakes were super simple – made with white frosting, and topped with flowers, because they were all over Pinterest. We love to bring in the trending, but we also love to create the individual and the custom cakes."
Stressing about where you're going to find the time to taste test between the gown and the flowers? Sims said around the three-month mark is when you should start setting up an appointment with your bakery and cake designer. But it can be done six months to a year in advance if you're a pre-pre-planner. Your first consultation is free, so Sims recommends trying to accomplish as much as possible during that time.
Various cake layer flavors are available like almond pound cake, lemon velvet, spice, pink champagne and carrot cake. Vegan, and gluten-free chocolate or vanilla cakes are available, as is dairy-free topping upon request. Several housemade fillings and frostings can be ordered like cream cheese buttercream, mixed berry compote, strawberry reduction, and Dulce de Leche with toasted coconut.
Feel free to bring your invitations, ribbons, lace or color swatches for reference. Sims said, "we want the wedding cake to be the easiest decision you make, and the most fun, most relaxed part of the event. It should be the last thing you're stressing out about."
As far as pricing goes, Sims said it all depends on the wedding, how many people your cake (or cupcakes) are going to feed, the complexity of the design and the distance of delivery, but the average is about $4.50-5 per slice.
