Florist 'Absolutely' Open to Same Sex Marriages

Michael B. Anthony Florist, located Downriver in Wyandotte, is all about the business of flowers – and they have the reviews, awards and passion to prove it. Owner Michael Bak bloomed his business in 2013, and has since won Local 4's "Vote 4 the Best" Wedding Florist for two consecutive years, Wedding Wire's Couples' Choice award in 2017 and 2018, and has also been named The Knot's Best of Weddings 2018.
Michael and his partner Felix Ferrer use pieces of antique furniture, as well as milk and depression-era glass to create a classic, vintage style. Bak says organics are in high demand this wedding season, bouquets with more greenery and a vintage flair. Lost on the idea of what you're looking for? Bak suggests couples have a budget set for themselves, or at least have a good idea of what your goal price range might be, and try surfing the web to see what you might like to incorporate. Bak also suggests bringing in pictures of what you like, so they can do their best to emulate that.
So, when should you contact your florist? Bak says if you set up an appointment anywhere with four to six months of lead time, you should be all set. As far as general pricing goes, Bak says it just depends on the size, style and set budget of each wedding.
When it comes to inclusivity, Bak says, "if you want a successful business, you need to have that diversity there. We get same sex couples who ask us if we're open to same sex marriages and our response is always 'absolutely,' but it's just the fact they even have to ask that question."
